Do not sell or share my information.
The short version
OpinionBase does not sell or share your email, login identifier, or any other directly identifying information. We docommercialise aggregate, anonymised opinion and perception data derived from how the crowd votes, which under California law may qualify as “sharing” even though it is not tied to you as an individual. You can opt your future activity out of those aggregate products at any time — no account deletion required, no fee, no retaliation.
What we do and don't do
To be exact about the terms the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and the California Privacy Rights Act (CPRA) use:
- We do not “sell” personal information in the traditional sense — we do not pass your email, social-provider ID, or any direct identifier to third parties in exchange for money.
- We may “share” de-identified, aggregate signalderived from votes, confidence levels, and demographic breakdowns (e.g. coarse country, device type, topic) in the form of anonymised insight products licensed to partners. Under the CPRA definition of “share,” this may be treated as a covered disclosure even when we believe the data has been appropriately de-identified.
- We never use sensitive personal information for inferences about your character or identitybeyond what's required to run the product.
- We do not offer financial incentives for providing, or retaining, your personal information, and we will not deny you service, charge a different price, or degrade quality because you exercised this right.
Full detail in our Privacy Policy.
How to opt out
Send us an email from the address tied to your account. One line is enough. We'll confirm within 15 business days and exclude your future activity from aggregate insight products going forward. Historical aggregates already delivered to partners cannot be recalled — the point of opting out is to stop contributing new signal.
You may also act through an authorised agent; we'll ask for signed permission. We will verify your request against the email on file. We do not charge a fee and we will not retaliate against you for exercising this right.
If you are not in California
Residents of the EEA, UK, and other jurisdictions with comparable data-protection regimes have equivalent or broader rights. In particular you have a right to object to processing based on legitimate interests, including the aggregate insight products described above. The same email address works — just tell us where you're writing from so we apply the right legal framework.
Categories of personal information we handle
For CPRA transparency, the categories we collect are:
- Identifiers — login ID from a social provider, OpinionBase handle.
- Commercial information — none; we do not sell goods or services to you.
- Internet/network activity — votes, comments, navigation within our site, request logs.
- Geolocation — coarse region only, derived from IP.
- Inferences — aggregate-level patterns (not individual profiles).
Sensitive personal information (as defined by the CPRA) we collect is limited to account-login credentials from your social provider and your precise geolocation is not collected. We do not use sensitive personal information for the purpose of inferring characteristics about you.
