Terms of Service.
The short version
OpinionBase is a public forum for asking and answering questions. Be civil. Don't break the law. The questions, opinions, votes, and comments you see here are written by other humans — not by us. We don't endorse them, we don't verify them, and we aren't liable for them. Use your head.
1. Who these terms are between
“OpinionBase”, “we”, or “us” means the operator of this website and its affiliated developers. “You” means the person using the site — whether signed in or not. By accessing OpinionBase you agree to these Terms. If you don't, please close the tab.
2. Who can sign up
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum digital-consent age in your country, whichever is higher) to use OpinionBase. If you're signing up on behalf of an organisation, you're confirming you have the authority to bind it to these Terms.
3. Your account
- You're responsible for what happens under your account. Keep your social-login credentials safe.
- You must give us accurate information (a working handle, a real email address through your social provider).
- You can delete your account at any time from your settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that break these Terms.
4. What you post (“User Content”)
Questions, options, comments, votes, predictions, reactions, bookmarks, bios, avatars — anything you submit to OpinionBase is your User Content. You keep ownership of it. By posting it, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, display, adapt (for formatting and moderation), and distribute that content on and through the service. This licence exists only so we can actually show your post to other users and operate the product. It ends when you delete the content, except for copies we need to keep for legal, backup, or security reasons for a reasonable period.
You promise that your User Content is yours to post, doesn't infringe anyone else's rights, and doesn't break any law.
5. Aggregate & derived data (vote & perception insights)
Read this one carefully. Separately from your individual User Content, OpinionBase owns, controls, and is the data controller for the aggregate, statistical, and demographic data generated by votes, confidence levels, predictions, reactions, and engagement patterns across the platform — including breakdowns by coarse signals such as country or region, device type, language, sign-in provider, topic, tag, and time.
By using the service you grant us a perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, royalty-free, sub-licensable, and transferable right to aggregate, anonymise, annotate, model, benchmark, publish, and commercialise this data — including by sharing, licensing, or selling the resulting anonymised insight products to commercial partners (for example brands, market-research firms, media, academic researchers, and dataset marketplaces).
We commit that when we share these insight products with partners we will not knowingly disclose your email, social identifier, or any other field that directly identifies you, and we enforce a minimum cohort size on demographic breakdowns before they leave our systems. For the specifics of what we do and do not share — and how to object to future inclusion — see our Privacy Policy.
6. What you can't do
Please don't use OpinionBase to:
- Post illegal content, hate speech, harassment, threats, or doxxing.
- Post sexually explicit content, content sexualising minors, or content depicting real violence against real people.
- Post spam, scams, malware, phishing, or bulk commercial solicitation.
- Impersonate someone else or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or organisation.
- Vote with bots, buy votes, brigade, or otherwise manipulate the tallies. Each human gets one mark per question.
- Scrape the service, reverse-engineer it, or probe for vulnerabilities outside a good-faith security-research context.
- Break any law that applies to you.
We may remove content, restrict features, or terminate accounts that violate these rules. We may also cooperate with law enforcement where legally required.
7. The questions you see aren't ours
This is important: OpinionBase is a platform, not a publisher. Every question, option, description, comment, prediction, vote, and opinion you see on the site is written or cast by a user. Those views are the users' own. They are not reviewed, endorsed, fact-checked, or adopted by OpinionBase, its operators, or its developers.
We do not guarantee the accuracy, legality, truthfulness, safety, or moral merit of any user-generated content. If you rely on anything you read here — for medical, legal, financial, political, or any other reason — you're doing so at your own risk. The platform and the developers are not liable for any of the questions on the platform, or for any answers, predictions, comments, or consequences that follow from them.
8. Realtime tallies, predictions, polls
Vote counts, percentages, confidence averages, streaks, titles, sparklines, trending tags and leaderboards are best-effort snapshots of what users have cast. They can change, be recalculated, be corrected for abuse (bots, duplicates, brigading), or be removed entirely. Do not treat them as authoritative polling, as predictions of real-world events, or as financial / medical / legal signal.
9. Third parties
OpinionBase uses third-party services — for authentication (Google, Apple, GitHub, X, and similar social providers), hosting (Vercel), database and realtime (Supabase), and analytics. Their terms and privacy policies apply to your use of those pieces. We don't control those services and aren't responsible for their actions.
10. Intellectual property
The OpinionBase name, logo, design (“The Margin”), typography treatment, ballot-mark motif, and source code are owned by us. You may not copy them, use them as your own brand, or claim to represent OpinionBase without written permission.
If you believe content on OpinionBase infringes your copyright, contact us at helpopinionbase@gmail.com with the allegedly infringing URL, a description of the copyrighted work, and your contact details.
11. The service is provided “as is”
OpinionBase is offered as-is and as-available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by law. We don't promise the service will be uninterrupted, bug-free, secure, or that any specific result will be produced by using it. We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service — including questions, tallies, features, or your account — at any time, with or without notice.
12. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, in no event will OpinionBase, its operators, owners, developers, contributors, employees, or affiliates be liable to you for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages — including lost profits, lost data, loss of goodwill, business interruption, or any damages arising from your reliance on user-generated content — even if we've been advised of the possibility of those damages.
Our total cumulative liability to you for any claim arising out of or relating to these Terms or the service will not exceed USD $100, or the amount you have paid us in the 12 months before the claim, whichever is greater.
Some jurisdictions don't allow certain of these limitations. In those jurisdictions, our liability is limited to the smallest extent permitted by law.
13. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless OpinionBase and its operators and developers from any claim, liability, loss, or expense (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your User Content, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right.
14. Termination
You can stop using OpinionBase whenever you like. You can delete your account in Settings, which removes your profile and, wherever practical, unlinks your past User Content from your identity. We may suspend or terminate your access at any time for breach of these Terms, risk to the platform, or legal reasons. Sections 4 (licence), 5 (aggregate data rights), 6–12 (rules and disclaimers), and 13 (indemnity) survive termination. Insight products already delivered to partners cannot be recalled on termination.
15. Governing law & disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which OpinionBase is operated, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. If a dispute arises, we'll first try to sort it out informally — please email helpopinionbase@gmail.com. If we can't, any dispute will be resolved exclusively in the courts of that jurisdiction, unless a mandatory consumer-law rule says otherwise.
16. Changes to these terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page always shows when the current version took effect. For material changes we'll try to notify you in-app or by email. Continuing to use OpinionBase after an update means you accept the revised Terms.
